Graphic design is a business of making or choosing marks & arranging them on a surface to convey an idea.
Now let take a first look on what I've made, then I will tell you my idea.
This is my process: First I draw it by hand to illustrate my idea about the topic.
Secondly, I put it on illustrator and then draw it by the program to have a good image. Then I export the file in .psd and use photoshop to finish the rest of the process.
Finally, I have the result like this one below.
My idea about Graphic Design was first the eyes. Whatever you make, if you want to create a graphic art work, you need to have good sense of viewing. Then, follow what the definition said, our work process should have enough steps to make sure we create good work. We plan, we make, choose elements and then arranging them to express our idea to the viewers.

Ok Sounds Good, I guess you have one step further in your software process, the Photoshop one. The background can be created within Illustrator for this kind of rendering.
I think it is quite an interesting idea. I really like your sketch. It is really clever. However, I think you should add more effects such as converted it into painting style to make it more lively.^^
